Fundraiser Helps Search Dogs Find the Missing

On Saturday May 5th, 2012 all 41 Pet Food Express stores will be hosting the California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA) for a fundraiser geared toward helping CARDA search dogs continue their life-saving work.  All the proceeds from pet wash tokens sold at Pet Food Express stores on May 5, 2012, will be donated to CARDA. Additionally, Pet Food Express stores will be accepting cash donations for CARDA at their registers the entire weekend of May 5th-6th.
The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

This is the second year that Pet Food Express has hosted CARDA for a fundraiser.  Last year Pet Food Express hosted CARDA at 10 of its stores and raised over $15,000 which enabled CARDA to start a veterinary fund for injured search dogs and to start a fund to help defray the costs of driving to searches.  This year’s fundraiser is critical for enabling CARDA to maintain the veterinary and transportation funds as well as to help with the cost of dispatching teams to searches.

CARDA is an all-volunteer organization that provides trained search and rescue dog teams to help locate missing people.  All funds raised will go directly toward the costs associated with the training and deployment of CARDA search and rescue dogs.  Search dogs and their handlers will be at all 41 stores to meet the public.  Veterinarian, animal behaviorist and trainer Ian Dunbar will make an appearance at the Rockridge store. Author Kaye Hall, author of “Stop and Stay Put” will be at the Napa store and author Leah Waarvik, author of “I Sit and Stay” will be at the El Cerrito store in the morning and the Alameda store in the afternoon.
